The markets have seen a correction, gas prices are down significantly, and the Republicans have taken over the Congress. This is definitely a time of volatility in the markets. My guess is that we are going to go down, but this could create some good opportunities in the market for buying. I have been buying a lot of dividend stocks, this is a new market strategy for me, but I figure it should be interesting for a long term play.
It has been awhile and I haven’t been very disciplined in posting but here is where I am currently at:
$BRK.B (Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Class B) Cost Per Share: $134.92 Current Price: $143.61
$CAMP (Cal Amp) Cost Per Share: $18.54 Current Price:$19.70
Still trying my patience. It still has all the signs in my opinion of a breakout stock but it is definitely hard to wait it out.
$CNSL (Consolidated Communications) Cost Per Share: $21.62 Current Price: $26.00
Still buying, still liking the dividend income on this stock. Steady as she goes…
$FPI (Farmland Partners Inc.) Cost Per Share: $11.72 Current Price: $10.59
Not so sure as when I bought it. I thought land prices were going to go up, but real estate has turned into a very selective market. So now I am a bit uneasy.
$FTR (Frontier Communications Corp.) Cost Per Share: $6.62 Current Price: $6.44
Another dividend stock, I really like the yield but it is a bit of a risk place right now for communications.
$GE (General Electric Co.) Cost Per Share: $27.82 Current Price: $26.41
Energy stocks not such a great play as I thought it would be, but I guess I will have to bag it for awhile here.
$HYSR (Hypersolar Inc.) Cost Per Share: $.05 Current Price: $.02, Sold Price: $.02
Took the loss and moved on. It is a sleeper for now.
$NQ (NQ Mobile) Cost Per Share: $6.13 Current Price: $7.18
Shorts still have a hold on this one, but not for too much longer. Earnings should be reported soon and it will pick up the pace.
$PAL (North America Palladium Ltd.) Cost Per Share: $.38 Current Price: $.15, Sold Price: $.19
The trend told me to get out earlier and I didn’t but I at least I cut my losses.
$PLUG (Plug Power Inc.) Cost Per Share: $5.60 Current Price: $5.30
Not liking how it never seems to keep it’s gains but I still think it will see it’s day as soon as some new contracts are confirmed.
$RSH (Radio Shack Corp.) Cost Per Share: $1.21 Current Price: $.9465
Not good seeing this trading like a penny stock, but I think if the company can close some stores and get it’s online store going it might have a chance.
$SPLS (Staples Inc.) Cost Per Share: $12.96 Current Price: $12.93
There is a Staples near my house and I have noticed foot traffic to the store is picking up, maybe this dividend stock will pick up as well?
$UL (Unilever PLC) Cost Per Share: $40.75, Current Price: $39.98
I like the company and the idea of things that people will always need, planning on keeping this one for a long time.
$WIN (Windstream Holdings Inc.) Cost Per Share: $10.67, Current Price: $9.55
I went for this one as a energy/dividend play, but in light of the current Congress I might have to bail out of this one soon. I don’t think the Republicans will let it fly.
Thanks for sharing this list of stocks. Quite a few names of companies I have never heard of before. One of the benefits about finding and reading other investment blogs out there.
Thank you for the comment. I watch your blog all the time and I always appreciate the insights.
