gratuituous pictures

“These are my favorite pictures from the first of our two vacation picture files.

Above and below are a couple of our many Disney pictures. These aren’t the first and they won’t be the last! (For example, the third one *grin*)

This is AJ sitting in a high chair in Club 33 at Disneyland. In this picture you can barely see a white table cloth behind him. He is an unsure sitter at this point, and the Club 33 people brought a clean tablecloth to help him be more comfortable in his chair.

My favorite picture of me!! It helps you can’t see much of me in this picture. We are, obviously, about to enter Zion’s National Park.

AJ is just hanging out in the stroller, he LOVES to put his feet up. It frustrates him to no end that he can’t put his feet up in the supermarket carts. He tips to the side trying to get them up there.

Well, that’s it for that file. You can tell that John is mostly the photgrapher, and that we much prefer pictures of AJ to pictures of ourselves!

New Skills!!

“<%image(20080902-07-26-08FamReunion 117a.jpg|428|336|null)%>

The above picture is from our recent family reunion. I’ll try and get the best of these pictures out over the next little bit. Pictured are Great-Grandpa Jackman, Grandpa Jackman, Papi Pedroza, and the star of the show: AJ. We have no pictures of AJ sitting up on his own, this was the best I could do. He’s been sitting up for quite a bit now.

However, as of yesterday he has a new skill: pulling himself into sitting position!! Yesterday morning when John went in to go get him out of his crib he was sitting up! It was the same thing this morning when I went to go get him. Just now AJ showed off for us how he does it, getting his knees under him and pushing up. It’s a little unique to describe, and it takes him a couple of tries, but he is an official sitter-uper!”

We Are Now Available for Autographs.

“Denise ran the 5k on Saturday, August 9th, 2008. AJ and I did the Racewalk. Actually AJ got pushed in the stroller but it was all cool. As you will read in the article I got 1st place in my division 30-39. What the reporter was kind enough to leave out is that at my time of 47:59, the 76 yr old lady in the same race still outpaced me. Lucky for me she was not in my division!! Anyhow, this is my first win ever in a sport (well there was that Pinewood Derby win of 1985). Anyhow, it was even more suprising to see us all on the front page of the local newspaper the Crestline Courier (readership 5000?). Below is the clipping I made and if you click on it a link to the actual article.

AJ 7 months old, USA 2784 months old

“<%image(20080706-ajatfield.jpg|448|336|null)%>
Ok so the USA has a little bit of time on AJ, but he is trying to catch up. I had the day off today so we went to the community picnic in town and in the afternoon we went to the 66ers game (Minor League division A for the Dodgers). The 66ers routed the High Desert Mavericks with a 7-0 win. Before the game there was a fly over of a c-17 and after the game their was fireworks. AJ loved the fireworks and was not the least bit scared, he didn’t know what to do with the bat though (typical for our family). What was scary is the fact that the fireworks set two palm trees ablaze. Oh well, what kind of fireworks show is it if it doesn’t burn down the city. JK 🙂

230.6–Slowly but Surely

“<%image(20080704-7-1-08 009a.jpg|292|448|null)%>

My weight loss is proceeding, somewhat slower than I would like, but that’s my own fault. I am not always good about writing down what I eat. When I write it down, then I can keep track and I stay under what I need too. However, when I don’t write it down, stuff gets away from me. Either I forget this bite here and that nibble there, or I don’t realize how bad bad is. (I mean, I was never under any delusion that homemade macaroni and cheese was low density diet food, but 16 points for a cup!) (Or the salad that I *did* think was diet food, but the 1/2 cup of nuts added mucho points that put me over the top.)

Anyway, that’s the way it goes. Supposedly the slower it comes off the longer it stays off. I hope so! That would be my only consolation.

I did finally get to my first 10% goal, that was 234lbs. Now the next big step is to get to 225lbs. That is when I drop my daily points from 28 to 26. Then down to 211, that will be the next 10% and so on. Happy Counting on this happy fouth you all!

Happy Canada Day!

“We are not Canadians but it didn’t stop us from celebrating. Anthing for a chance to try something different. So for dessert we tried making some nanaimo bars, they were soo good. What can I saw I like chocolate a lot! For those not in the know nanaimo bars are a three layered dessert that has a graham/nut/chocolate/coconut base, custardlike center, and a hard chocolate top. It is really good, I highly recomend them.

An Afternoon at Lake Gregory

On Monday June 30th we took AJ to the Lake for the first time. It wasn’t exactly hot that day, 80F outside, so the lake was a bit chilly, but not unbearably so. Once he got used to the water AJ had a fun time splashing with Mommy and Poppi. I think he thought it was funny that Mom and Poppi were in the bath with him. We lasted a little over an hour or so and he was done, that was all the excitement the AJ man could handle. Grandma Jacobs was able to come with us and get out of the heat that was “down below”, she was ourphotographer.

Wicked Haircut!!

“John did trim AJ’s hair around his ears just after he was born, but the time has come for the first real haircut. So, we broke out the clippers (on a Sunday morning just before church of course). AJ can’t keep his head still to save his life, so it’s slightly uneven, but only if you look closely. Bye-Bye faux-hawk!!
<%image(20080704-7-1-08 049a.jpg|296|448|null)%>

Then on Tuesday June 24th John and I had a great opportunity to go to see Wicked in downtown LA at the Pantages Theater. A lady in our ward co-ordinated group tickets, which brought down the price considerably. AJ stayed overnight at a good friend’s house. Luckily he was fairly laid back and went right to sleep, and slept through the night like he usually does. (What a relief!) We highly reccomend the show to anyone who has a chance to see it!

I just loved the roof of the Pantages (this is outside the lobby, where the ticket booth is), so here is a random roof picture.

Disneyland–Pass Holders Again!!

“Well, we are finally pass holders again, and in June we made two trips out to Disneyland, one on June 16th and one on the 23rd. Unfortunately we only have pictures from the 16th, as we couldn’t find the camera on the 23rd. (Of course it turns out later that it was with us all the time, buried in the depth of the Diaper Bag, oh well.) We did enjoy a ride on the newest attraction, Toy Story Midway Mania in DCA, as well as the (new to us) Pixar Parade, but that was the trip without the camera. Overall we’ve discovered that going with a baby takes just a few adjustments. First of all, he’s much more sensitive to the heat than we are. We watch him closely and take appropriate precautions. Secondly, a baby means even more time apart than traveling with a pregnant lady. Not only do we have to separate for the thrill rides (doing baby swap pass), other times it’s not a matter of he can’t go on the ride; it’s more a matter of he needs a nap/quiet time in the stroller instead. It’s still lots of fun though, and I expect you’ll see lots of Disneyland pictures over the years on this blog.

The cousins meet!

Hey, Harper, are we going to be friends?

Oh yes, AJ, it is going to be so much fun to grow up together!
(AJ is a tad more than 6 months old, Harper is almost 2 months old)

Aunt Judy and Uncle Bob, our hosts, had a fun time playing with the cutest babies in the world.
Whoa, Aunt Judy, do that some more!
Is anybody going to share the joke with the rest of us?

Bundles of Love!”
